Increasing Accountability at the VA

July 29, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding House passage of H.R. 1994, the VA Accountability Act:

“Along with our gratitude, America's veterans have earned the best care available, which is why the Department of Veterans Affairs’ persistent culture of incompetence and corruption is so completely unacceptable,” said Scalise. “Time and time again—despite a change in leadership and the passage of strong legislation by Congress to hold the department accountable—the VA failed to correct its path. It’s clear that more must change at the VA, which is why the House today passed landmark legislation to hold the VA’s leadership and employees accountable for their actions and the results they produce. I’m proud of Chairman Jeff Miller and the Veterans Affairs Committee for their strong oversight, and for guiding this crucial legislation through the House. Now it’s time for the Senate to follow our lead and put this bill on President Obama’s desk."
