Protecting Hardworking Americans from Rising Energy Costs

June 24, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 2042, the Ratepayer Protection Act.

“As hard-working families continue to struggle with stagnant wages and a slow economic recovery, the last thing they need are more radical regulations from unelected bureaucrats at the EPA that will increase household electricity costs. But higher energy costs and lost American jobs are exactly what will happen if unelected bureaucrats at President Obama’s EPA are allowed to move forward with their latest attack on American power plants,” Scalise said. “Today’s strong bipartisan vote protects hard-working taxpayers by allowing states to act in the best interests of their people and block this EPA proposal from imposing unnecessary economic hardship on families and businesses across America. I commend Chairmen Whitfield on his commitment to protecting the American people from the Obama Administration’s heavy-handed government overreach.”
