Scalise applauds Corps for approving Morganza to the Gulf

July 11, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise today applauded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after they released a Chief’s Report for Morganza to the Gulf.

“Today’s Chief’s Report by the Corps is a major step in the right direction in the fight to provide desperately-needed flood protection for thousands of Louisiana families and businesses,” Scalise said. “Southeast Louisiana is an economic cornerstone of our nation's energy supply, and is the hub for servicing the offshore oil and gas industry. Colonel Hansen assured me that he is committed to moving forward with actual work on Morganza to the Gulf to build on the tremendous work that has already been done by local officials in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes. While today’s announcement is far from the end in the fight for stronger flood protection for southeast Louisiana, I’m glad that the Corps is finally moving this ball forward after years of delays. Our delegation will continue working closely together to move this project forward.”
