Scalise Elected House Majority Whip
Washington D.C. – U.S. Representative Steve Scalise (LA-01) today was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives for the remainder of the 113th Congress. He released the following statement regarding his election:
“I am honored that my colleagues have placed their trust and confidence in me to serve as the next Republican Majority Whip of the United States House of Representatives. I will work relentlessly each and every day on behalf of every member of the Republican Conference to bring a fresh voice and new ideas to the leadership table. Now is the time for us to join together to solve our country’s problems for hard-working Americans by advancing the conservative principles that unite us and move America forward.
“Today is a proud moment for the great State of Louisiana. The strong team we built from every corner of the country has been humbling, but I was particularly inspired by all of the thoughts and prayers from people back home. It is a privilege to represent the people of Louisiana’s First Congressional District and I look forward to bringing their voices, interests and values to the House leadership table.”
Steve Scalise will be the 27th Majority Whip and the first Republican Majority Whip from Louisiana in the history of the House of Representatives. Scalise was first elected to Congress in 2008 and has served as Chairman of the 176-member conservative House Republican Study Committee since 2012.
