Scalise helps spur bipartisan effort to delay and reform Biggert-Waters

October 29, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise today helped spur a bipartisan, bicameral effort to reform Biggert-Waters and save Louisianans from devastating NFIP rate increases.

“Louisiana families, homeowners, and businesses deserve relief from the unworkable Biggert-Waters flood insurance premium increases, and our bill takes major steps to ensure that the National Flood Insurance Program is affordable and sustainable for the future,” Scalise said. “Our bill represents the hard work of a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers from around the nation who put politics aside and are working tirelessly to fix the major flaws of Biggert-Waters. By delaying the exorbitant Biggert-Waters rate hikes, this bill forces FEMA to hit the pause button on skyrocketing rate hikes while working to implement real solutions that fix the problems within NFIP without hurting homeowners who just want to protect their families from flooding.”
