Scalise Statement on Administration's Five-Year Offshore Energy Leasing Plan

January 28, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement in response to the Department of Interior's Draft Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2017-2022.

“Today’s Draft OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Program proposal signals the continuation of the same failed energy policies of the past six years of this Administration,” Rep. Scalise said. “While opening the Atlantic to energy exploration is a small step forward, the overall plan is one giant step back, as the Administration has proposed the lowest number of lease sales in the history of the OCS program. If this Administration wants to get serious about putting America on a path to energy independence, Congress is ready to work with the president and the Department of the Interior to pass a strategy that takes advantage of our nation's energy abundance both on and off America's shores.”
