Scalise Statement on Approval of LNG Exports Bill

January 28, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act, legislation to help expedite the approval of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects. H.R. 351 passed the House with bipartisan support, 277 – 133.

“The U.S. natural gas revolution has dramatically changed the landscape of the global energy market, making America the world’s No. 1 natural gas producer,” Rep Scalise said. “Unfortunately, our nation’s energy infrastructure, mired in red tape and an outdated permitting process, has failed to keep up with today’s growing pace of energy production. This critical legislation will bring the LNG industry into the 21st century and play a crucial role in creating high-paying jobs while increasing the export of affordable, American energy to the global market. I applaud Chairman Upton and Rep. Johnson for bringing this much-needed legislation to the floor that will create a healthy economy by growing American jobs and strengthening energy security at home and abroad.”
