Scalise: We Must Protect Mothers and the Unborn

June 23, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court issued their ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, striking down a Texas law designed to protect women’s health and safety at abortion clinics:
“By striking down the Texas law, the Supreme Court struck a severe blow to women’s health and to the lives of the unborn. Today’s ruling is truly disappointing. When a majority of the Supreme Court will not even allow basic health standards that exist at hospitals to be applied to abortion clinics, it underscores how important it is, with as many as three seats on the high court open in the next four years, to have a president who will nominate pro-life judges who will protect innocent human life and defend our Constitution. The horrors of the Gosnell clinic and scandals of Planned Parenthood selling baby parts have shown us how the abortion industry puts women in danger, and all of us in the pro-life community must redouble our efforts to protect both mothers and babies from the horror of abortion.”
