Scalise Welcomes President's Energy Independence Executive Actions

Mar 28, 2017 Issues: Energy

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) applauded President Trump's executive orders reversing Obama administration regulations that impede domestic energy production, releasing the following statement:

"Today's actions by President Trump are yet another important step in fulfilling his promise to promote American energy independence, following his approval of the Keystone XL pipeline last week.

"It just makes sense that Washington should not be imposing harmful rules that block our ability to use the abundant natural resources we have in our country to produce safe, low-cost energy domestically, and today's orders ensure the federal government follows that principle when considering these rules.

"Many of the rules and regulations enacted under the Obama administration, such as the Clean Power Plan rule, were simply more examples of Washington power grabs, imposing costly and burdensome regulations on our energy industry that killed jobs in coal country, and raised energy costs on American consumers.

"Thankfully, President Trump's reversal of these misguided rules will give American energy producers the ability to grow and hire again, putting us on the path to energy independence with affordable prices for all Americans."
