Whip Scalise Statement on the Nomination of Chairman Tom Price as HHS Secretary

November 29, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC — House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following statement on President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (GA-06) as the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS):

"I applaud President-elect Trump on his selection of Dr. Tom Price to be his Health and Human Services Secretary. Dr. Price is perfectly suited to lead HHS at this critical time when we will need to focus on repealing Obamacare and replacing it with patient-centered reforms that lower costs and put patients back in charge of their health care decisions. Tom's background as a respected medical doctor, as well as his legislative leadership on a replacement bill, and his Chairmanship of the House Budget Committee, uniquely qualify him for this important position at this historic time. I look forward to working with President Trump and HHS Secretary Price in the new Congress as we gut Obamacare and replace it with reforms that finally restore the patient-doctor relationship by getting rid of the unworkable Obamacare mandates.”

Dr. Price served as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee during the 112th Congress, a position held by Vice President-elect Mike Pence during the 110th, and Whip Scalise during the 113th Congress.
