If you were impacted by Ida and have insurance, contact your insurance company and FEMA. You will need to provide your insurance claim information to FEMA to determine eligibility for federal assistance. FEMA cannot provide assistance for losses that are covered by insurance.
FEMA has approved generator and chainsaw reimbursement under individual assistance (IA). If you qualify for IA, you qualify for reimbursement for generators and chainsaws purchased or rented after Hurricane Ida. You will need to present your receipts to FEMA to qualify. Individuals must first apply by visiting disasterassistance.gov or calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

Blue Roof Program
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has activated its free Operation Blue Roof program to to repair homeowners' damaged roofs. Operation Blue Roof protects property, reduces temporary housing costs, and allows residents to remain in their homes while recovering from the storm. This program is free of charge for affected residents living in Ascension, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Terrebonne. Generator Safety
- Do not place generators indoors or inside of garages, carports, or sheds.
- Keep generators away from doors and windows and at least 20 feet away from your home, down-wind.
- Never plug a portable generator into a wall outlet of your home.
- Do not use in rain or wet conditions.
- Carefully read your generator's manual for instructions on proper usage.
