Dems Choose Radical Base over Simple Economics

July 18, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after House passage of the $15 minimum wage bill:

"Democrats have chosen their radical base over simple economics. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated the consequences should this bill become law would be up to 3.7 million jobs lost and a $9 billion decrease in family income. Republicans working with President Trump continue to deliver higher wages and better jobs to American families through our pro-growth agenda, without the need for heavy-handed federal mandates that will disproportionately hurt small businesses and low-income workers. Every Democrat that voted for this bill must answer for endangering our economy and the livelihoods of millions of American workers."
