HEAT Members Blast Biden, Congressional Democrats for Waging War on American Energy
WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Member Rep. John Joyce (R-Pa.) led 14 other HEAT members, including HEAT chairman and House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), in a Special Order on the House Floor last night condemning the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats for their all-out assault on American energy independence. HEAT members blasted President Biden for his job-killing energy policies like canceling the Keystone XL pipeline, begging OPEC and Russia to produce more oil, using the financial system to target oil and gas producers, and placing a moratorium on drilling in the United States. This Administration's failed policies have caused everyday households products to skyrocket for hard-working families and shipped well-paying jobs overseas to countries with worse environmental standards, which will increase carbon emissions across the globe.
HEAT members who participated in the Special Order include Representatives Jack Bergman (R-Mich.), Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Jake LaTurner (R-Kan.), House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.), August Pfluger (R-Texas), Andy Barr (R-Ky.), Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Rick Allen (R-Ga.), and Fred Keller (R-Pa.).
Highlights from last night's Special Order:
Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.): "We're going to continue to stand up for American energy and to get the facts out about if you're going to make stuff anywhere in the world – you want to produce steel – make it in America. Because if you make it in China, or India, or some other country, they emit five times more carbon. And yet, what [is] President Biden doing in his policies? [He] is attacking that very American energy that works to create great jobs here at home [and will] rebuild our middle class. [These jobs will] help those hard-working families who are sick and tired of paying more, and [President Biden should] stop giving gifts to foreign countries like China."
Representative Jack Bergman (R-Mich.):"This Administration's approach to energy unnecessarily threatens the safety and security of all Americans. On Day 1, President Biden shut down the Keystone Pipeline—costing thousands of jobs—and then turns around to support Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Make no mistake, this is ‘American Last' policy. We need energy policy that gives America greater energy independence, not one where we are forced to rely on unstable foreign markets."
Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.):"Democrat proposals will only lead to higher energy prices, reduce the reliability of electricity for many communities, and take away good-paying jobs."
Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.):"The United States is the greatest country in the world, and we have the ability to once again achieve energy independence, provide affordable and reliable energy for our citizens, and support our allies. We just need our leaders to have these priorities as well."
Representative Tim Walberg (R-Mich.):"Up until the Biden Administration took over, we were energy secure and no longer dependent upon Middle East oil. Now, President Biden is asking OPEC to pump more oil while he shuts down domestic production, putting America last. The message is clear: President Biden is pro-Russia and OPEC energy, but anti-American energy. He's pro-Russian pipelines, but anti-American pipelines."
House Committee on Natural Resources Ranking Member Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.):"As gas prices reach the highest levels since 2014, Americans are seeing the effects of decisions made on day one of the Biden Administration. In the House Natural Resources Committee, Democrats continue to attack safe and reliable energy production, spend millions to kill American energy jobs, impose new taxes and fees on working families, and make our nation more reliant than ever on foreign adversaries for critical minerals and energy resources we could produce more cleanly, cheaply, and effectively right here at home. We must be the innovators to affect the global environment."

Representative August Pfluger (R-Texas):"Energy security is national security—and nothing can be more important. Anyone voting in favor of reconciliation is voting against American energy, is voting against the independence that keeps our national security so strong. I urge my colleagues to support the energy industry."
Representative Andy Barr (R-Ky.):"The Biden Administration has been placating to left wing environmental activists by weaponizing government regulation to target energy producers to achieve radical climate goals that they could never pass through the normal legislative process. The HEAT team and my Republican colleagues on the Financial Services Committee will continue to fight against this misuse of government power while protecting reliable, affordable energy sources for every Kentuckian and American in our nation amid a historic rise in gas prices and household energy costs."
Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.):"Failed polices, fatal spending. That's the Democrats' legacy. My generation will pay for the Democrats' Trojan Horse of a socialist proposal. $3.5 trillion in unhinged, unconscionable, irredeemable spending. Karl Marx would call this bill radical."
