HEAT Members Call Out Biden's War on American Energy as Gas Prices Reach All-Time High
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Last night, House Energy Action Team (HEAT) members participated in a Special Order on the House Floor led by Rep. John Joyce (R-Pa.) blasting President Biden's anti-American energy policies that have caused gas prices to skyrocket to the highest level in U.S. history. The HEAT members noted how the Biden Administration has conceded America's energy independence to hostile foreign countries like Russia, which has weakened our security around the world. They demanded that President Biden immediately reverse his war on American energy and implement policies that promote U.S. energy security.
HEAT members who participated in the Special Order include Representatives John Joyce (R-Pa.), Garret Graves (R-La.), Kevin Hern (R-Okla.), Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.), Stephanie Bice (R-Okla.), Pete Stauber (R-Minn.), Jack Bergman (R-Mich.), Ron Estes (R-Kan.), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.), Dan Meuser (R-Pa.), Michael Cloud (R-Texas), Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Fred Keller (R-Pa.), Bill Johnson (R-Ohio), Andy Barr (R-Ky.), Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), Brian Babin (R-Texas), and Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.).
Highlights from last night's Special Order:
Representative Garret Graves (R-La.):"The President stood in this very room and talked about buying American. Why can't we buy our own American energy?"
Representative Kevin Hern (R-Okla.):"[President Biden] proudly told supporters on the campaign trail that his goal was to end fossil fuels immediately. Now, he's saying that his Administration and his rhetoric have no impact on the energy crisis. I call BS on that."
Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.):"I'm still trying to figure out what the priorities of this Biden Administration are. When John Kerry comes out and says, 'We hope that this Ukraine intervention does not interfere with the progress that the U.S. is making with [Vladimir] Putin on climate change,' you wonder — what are the priorities?"
Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.): "The American people need to know. They need to know that for months the Biden Administration has been using the excuse that global markets are complex, and there are dynamics out of our control that have led to the highest average gas prices since 2008 and spiking oil prices around the world. This is disingenuous at best, and in reality, is simply not true."
Representative Jack Bergman (R-Mich.):"The [Biden] Administration's approach to energy has been a problem long before Russia invaded Ukraine. Gas prices have been going up for months in response to heavy inflation brought about from out-of-control spending. House Republicans have been sounding the alarm on the national security implications of our energy dependence and the problem with relying on nations like Russia for our energy needs."

Representative Ron Estes (R-Kan.):"President Biden and the Congressional Democrats are solely responsible for the year-over-year increase, and their anti-American energy agenda prevented the United States from maintaining our energy independence at a critical moment in history."
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa):"The United States imports hundreds of thousands of barrels of Russian oil every day — a slap in the face to workers and businesses across our country. Sanctioning Russia's energy sector will cripple their economy and might be what it takes to end Russia's illegal invasion of a sovereign nation."
Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.):"There's a reason that oil and natural gas and coal are the preferred energy sources. They're cheap and they're reliable, and they get them from homegrown energy."
