The HEAT Report

February 7, 2022

The HEAT Report is a weekly newsletter focusing on how members of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT) promote American energy security, and an all-of-the-above energy economy.

The Latest:

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats rammed through their America Concedes to China Act last week after walking away from months of bipartisan, good-faith negotiations on legislation to confront the growing threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). At a whopping total of $325 billion, this package is chock-full of liberal agenda items that surrender America's competitive edge to the CCP.

Not only is Speaker Pelosi's liberal wishlist soft on China, but it also contains far-left climate provisions that weaken America's energy security and send millions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars right into the hands of the CCP.

The America Concedes to China Act authorizes $8 billion for a "Green Climate Fund," a United Nations slush fund that has already sent $100 million to the CCP. The bill does nothing to promote U.S. production of critical minerals or prevent American taxpayer money from subsidizing Chinese solar panels, batteries, and other green energy initiatives produced through slave labor.

This massive messaging bill also includes a Solyndra-style slush fund of $3 billion for a solar manufacturing program built around Democrats' failed policies of using government subsidies to advance renewable energy sources.

Instead of promoting American energy resources, this socialist grab-bag also creates "Climate Change Officer" positions at American embassies, which will undoubtedly weaken U.S. diplomats' focus on protecting American national security.

Clearly, Speaker Pelosi missed the mark once again on the urgent need to stand up to the CCP, and House Democrats proved their determination to put China's interests ahead of America's.

This Week's HEAT Member Highlights:

Representative Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) joined Matt Hammond on the Empowering America Podcast to discuss how oil and natural gas exploration and development is benefitting local communities, and what he and his HEAT colleagues are doing to hold the Biden Administration accountable. Their conversation highlights the real challenges contributing to rising prices and the truth about how American energy development is helping consumers save money, create jobs, and lower emissions.
