The HEAT Report

June 21, 2022

The HEAT Report is a weekly newsletter focusing on how members of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT) promote American energy security, and an all-of-the-above energy economy.

The Latest:

This past week, President Biden announced an upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia to beg them to increase oil production as gas prices reached record-high levels in America and domestic energy production remains inhibited by the President's anti-American energy agenda.

The hypocrisy of this move cannot be overstated – President Biden, who has done everything he can to shut down U.S. energy production, is flying over 5,000 miles to Saudi Arabia on Air Force One to ask dictators to bail him out of the mess he has created. Imagine the carbon footprint of that trip.

Now, even European nations like Germany are restarting coal plants – despite a pledge to end coal generation by 2030 – to offset their dependence on Russian oil and gas.

Instead of going to Saudi Arabia, President Biden could ease the pain for American households and fill the void for European countries by tapping into the vast energy resources we have in the United States, where oil is produced cleaner and more efficiently than countries like Saudi Arabia.

It's time for President Biden to stop blaming America's energy producers for his self-created energy crisis, accept responsibility for his failed energy policies, and unleash American energy to ease the pain hardworking families are feeling at the gas pump.

This Week's HEAT Member Highlights:

At last week's leadership press conference, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) slammed President Biden for traveling to Saudi Arabia to beg OPEC countries for oil instead of turning to American energy producers. Whip Scalise also urged Democrats to work with Republicans to help families who are being forced to choose between feeding their families and filling up their gas tanks.

In a speech on the House Floor, HEAT Co-Chair Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) urged Democrats to allow the American Energy Independence from Russia Act to come to the floor for a vote as hardworking Americans face one of the worst energy crises in the nation's history. This legislation would unleash American energy production by approving the Keystone XL pipeline, unleashing U.S. liquefied natural gas exports to boost natural gas production, restarting oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters, and protecting energy and mineral development from attacks by the Biden Administration.

HEAT Co-Chair Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) introduced a discharge petition to bring H.R. 575, the Promoting Cross-border Energy Infrastructure Act, to a vote on the House Floor. This legislation would establish transparent, reliable procedures to provide regulatory certainty and enable the United States to further expand the mutually beneficial energy relationship with Canada and Mexico.
