Historic Opportunity for Congress on USMCA

May 30, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon release of the Statement of Administrative Action (SAA) for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"We welcome the opportunity for Congress to start the process of approving the USMCA trade agreement. After much negotiation and hard-bargaining by the Trump Administration, this is an agreement that will create more jobs here at home, all while putting American workers first. The path is increasingly clear for historic, bipartisan passage, and we stand ready to work with free-trade advocates from both parties to get this done. Congress has an important role to play in approving this agreement, and we should do so with deliberate speed. Our Whip Team has already been working with the administration and our colleagues in the House to ensure that USMCA reaches President Trump's desk so American families and workers can begin reaping the benefits of this new trade agreement with our neighbors."
