Scalise Announces $1.2 Billion for Disaster Mitigation
WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today announced the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will soon release $1.2 billion to Louisiana for disaster mitigation projects. Congress appropriated this funding in the 2018 Bipartisan Budget Act, which became law in February 2018.
“I am happy to announce this $1.2 billion for Louisiana that we can put to good use shoring up our defenses against future storms. In early 2018, Congress acted to provide much-needed relief to states and communities recovering from natural disasters like flooding and wildfires. I worked to ensure $1.2 billion of this money would be responsibly invested in flood mitigation projects for Louisiana so we can protect our communities from damages and losses, which have cost us billions of dollars."
