Scalise Announces 2019 Congressional Art Competition Winner
WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) announced Alice Lane Read Calhoun, a 9th grader at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, La., as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Louisiana's First District. Her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside the work of other winning artists from across the country.
“Alice’s painting truly represents ‘Our Louisiana.’ Her beautiful work reflects the spirit that unites us all as Louisianans with its visible connection of our distinct wetlands and Mardi Gras celebrations. I am proud her work will soon be displayed in the Capitol as a representation of what makes Louisiana so unique," said Whip Scalise.
