WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette designated Tulane University as a new United States-Israel Center of Excellence in Energy, Engineering and Water Technology:

"I am excited that Tulane University was awarded as the new location for a U.S.-Israel Center of Excellence in Energy, Engineering and Water Technology, and I applaud the Trump Administration for designating Tulane as a hub for developing cutting-edge technologies that will greatly benefit both America and Israel.

"Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East, and I'm proud to do everything I can to promote the critically important American-Israel alliance – especially when it comes to our shared goal of energy innovation.

"Southeast Louisiana already has such a tremendous energy presence, and this Center of Excellence will only enhance the role our community plays in achieving American energy dominance," said Whip Scalise.

"Tulane is committed to addressing today's greatest issues and opportunities through collaboration and innovation. As such, we believe we are the ideal site for this center. With our partners, we look forward to creating technology that makes the development of offshore gas reservoirs safer and more sustainable in the Gulf of Mexico, the Eastern Mediterranean and all the waters of the world," saidTulane President Mike Fitts.
