Scalise: Let's Stand Up For Life All Across America

December 1, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined a pro-life rally on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court and urged the Court to recognize the right to life in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case. Whip Scalise praised the pro-life movement for its decades of work advocating on behalf of unborn babies. In addition, Whip Scalise emphasized that the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case could be the most significant Supreme Court decision about abortion since Roe v. Wade.

Whip Scalise's remarks:

"What a beautiful day this is, but what a consequential day this is.

"This is our moment.

"When you look out, and you see all of these people who for decades have been marching for life, who've been standing up for life, who've been working to elect pro-life elected officials at the statehouses [and] here in Congress, this is our moment. It's days like today that we all do that work.

"I want to first thank every one of you who came here today to stand up for life. And I want to thank all of those people, millions of people around this country, who have been standing up for life for decades, who have been working since Roe v. Wade to right that wrong. Today is our day. This is what we've been working for.

"When you look across the street at the Capitol, we've been trying – every House Republican supports the Born Alive Act that says if a baby's born alive outside the womb, you can't kill that baby and call it abortion. Do you know [that] we don't have one single taker on the Democrat side to support that bill over in the House?

"Elections have consequences. It's why we need to keep working. But, we also work to elect pro-life presidents, and Donald Trump made three great appointments to the Supreme Court.

"There was a day when you had judges that thought that this document was something they could just take out a pen and rewrite at their own will. That's not how our Founding Fathers set up this Constitution. It's supposed to be interpreted based on how it was written.

"Let's pray that today, these justices are hearing this case and remembering that of the three and inalienable rights that are listed in the Constitution, the first right is life.

"Life is why we're here. Life is why we march. It's why we show up. Today is our day. God bless every one of you. Pray for the Supreme Court to make the right decision. Let's have this Mississippi law upheld.

"My colleagues here from Mississippi did their work. In states like Louisiana, my home state, we're proud to have pro-life legislatures that have already passed laws. There are at least a dozen states that have laws on the books today that if this case in Mississippi is upheld, those states get to defend life immediately in ways that they weren't [able to] prior to today.

"So, this isn't just about Mississippi today. This is about protecting life all across America.God bless every one of you. Let's continue to stand up for life."
