Scalise Statement on HUD's Duplication of Benefits Guidance

June 17, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) made the following statement after the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released its guidance on the 'duplication of benefits' fix that Congress enacted into law last year:

"Today's announcement is long-awaited news for the thousands of Louisiana families and small businesses that were devastated by flooding in 2016 and then unfairly impacted by the faulty ‘duplication of benefits' rule.

"Over eight months ago, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law a bill to fix the unfair ‘duplication of benefits' problem that has plagued so many Louisiana families and small businesses recovering from the 2016 floods. Although congressional intent was clear in the law, bureaucrats at HUD delayed implementation of this law. I am glad that overdue clarity and relief will now be provided to Louisianans because Americans should not be penalized for making responsible decisions to rebuild in the wake of disaster,"said Whip Scalise.
