Scalise Statement on NFIP Extension

June 4, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) made the following statement after the House voted to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to September 30:

"Today, the House once again voted to extend the National Flood Insurance Program to September 30th, and I am glad this extension is now headed to the President's desk. While this short-term extension is necessary to give families and small businesses certainty in the strength of the program, Congress must move forward on a long-term reauthorization of NFIP. I am encouraged by our bipartisan negotiations in the House, and as these negotiations continue I will not stop fighting for reforms that provide affordability for families and ensure taxpayer protections. For the millions of families who depend on NFIP, we need to get this done."
