Scalise Statement on the Passing of Governor Mike Foster

October 4, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon the passing of former Louisiana Governor Mike Foster:

"Jennifer and I are saddened to hear of the passing of former Governor Mike Foster. I enjoyed serving my first eight years in elected office with him following his surprise election as governor in 1995. Mike worked to create a pro-business environment in Louisiana by passing tort reform, improving our state's crumbling infrastructure, and helping to create our state's film incentive program. It was Mike Foster who helped us revamp Airline Drive by building the Saints training facility in Metairie as well as Zephyr Field. He was a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment who shepherded in our state's conceal-carry law, and he also led Louisiana to the distinction as the most pro-life state in the nation. Our prayers are with Alice and the rest of his family as we remember his positive legacy in Louisiana's political history."
