Scalise: Updated Well Control Rule Provides Certainty for Offshore Drilling Safety

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement upon the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement's release of the updated Well Control Rule:

"I applaud the Trump Administration for announcing the updated offshore Well Control Rule, which will result in safer drilling operations in the Gulf and provide sorely needed clarity and consistency for offshore workers. After intense review and careful study, BSEE's updated rule provides a consistent and predictable regulatory framework that will improve safety in the Gulf by correcting problems with the initial Well Control Rule that actually jeopardized safety in the Gulf. This updated rule will improve safety to better protect offshore workers as well as the environment."
