Congressman Scalise Announces Winner for the 2011 Congressional Art Competition: “Gulf Seafood: The Taste of Louisiana”
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that Trista Kramer from St. Scholastica Academy in Covington won this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The theme for the competition was “Gulf Seafood: The Taste of Louisiana.” Trista’s winning piece is named “Crawfish time.”
“This contest is a great way to showcase the talent of Louisiana's First Congressional District, and we are proud of all the artwork that was submitted in support of our message that Louisiana seafood is great to eat," Scalise said. “Trista’s piece captures the true spirit of a South Louisiana crawfish boil. I’m happy to showcase the wonderful seafood of Louisiana, and want to thank all of those who participated.”
This year Congressman Scalise used facebook to help pick a winner from four finalists. Trista’s work will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and the three other finalists will have their work displayed in one of Scalise’s district offices. The other finalists are as follows:
• Linsey Boudreaux from Pearl River High School ¬– “Cajun Paradise”
• Jaslyn Tate of Franklinton High School – “A Taste of Home”
• Andrew Benoit of Covington High School – “Feelin’s of the South”
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, and has given hundreds of thousands of high school students from across America the opportunity to share their talents.
