Congressman Scalise Appointed to Natural Resources and Veterans Committees

May 14, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Scalise today was given his Committee assignments for the remainder of the 110th Congress. Scalise has been appointed to the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Veterans Affairs. Congress unanimously agreed to have Congressman Scalise join.

Scalise made the following comments on his appointments to the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs committees.

On joining the House Committee on Natural Resources which has jurisdiction over offshore drilling:

“One of my top priorities in Congress is to continue to actively push for Louisiana’s hurricane, recovery and coastal protection needs that are vital to our nation’s energy security, seafood supply, and trade. Through the Resources Committee I will fight for legislation that gives Louisiana a more immediate fair share of oil revenues so we can restore our coast and provide a stronger barrier of protection against future storms.”

On Joining the House Committee on Veterans Affairs:

“Louisiana is home to over 350,000 veterans and they have all played a crucial, historic role in protecting our freedom and advancing democracy worldwide. I will work with Louisiana veterans, my colleagues on the Veterans Affairs Committee and the Veterans Administration to re-establish the Veterans Hospital in our district. Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana Veterans have been forced to travel long distances to receive the basic healthcare services they need and deserve. I will work to change policy to allow veterans the ability to receive basic care without having to travel long distances.”

Scalise’s duties on each committee will start immediately. See these links to learn more about the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.
