Five Scalise Service Academy Nominees Receive Appointments
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that five of his nominees for the U.S. Armed Service Academies have received an appointment. In December 2008 Scalise submitted nine nominations from the First District to the Academies.
“Our nation’s Service Academies are an excellent way to earn a post-secondary education while serving our country,” Scalise said. “These students are upstanding members of their communities and they each excel in school and extracurricular activities. I’m confident that they will represent Louisiana with dignity in our Armed Service Academies and will be our future leaders.”
The following students received Appointments to an Armed Service Academy and will be starting in July.
• Sean Brown (Northshore High School) of Slidell has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy
• Jonathan Fogarty (St. Paul’s High School) of Abita Springs has been appointed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy
• Christopher Kliebert (Archbishop Rummel High School) of Metairie has been appointed to the United States Naval Academy
• Zachary Knudson (Fontainebleau High School) of Mandeville has been appointed to the United States Military Academy (WestPoint)
• John Rush (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville received an appointment to the United States Military Academy (West Point)
High school students interested in applying to an Academy should request a nomination application during the spring/summer of their Junior Year in high school. The applications are due in Congressman Scalise’s office by October 31st of their Senior Year.
