WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the following video in remembrance of Veterans Day:
Remarks:
"Hi, I’m Congressman Steve Scalise. While we honor our nation’s men and women in uniform every day, Veterans Day represents a special time to pause, reflect and thank every single military veteran for their honorable service to our country.
"It’s humbling to know that nearly 22 million Americans have selflessly answered the call to defend our nation’s priceless freedoms, including 56,000 veterans from my district in southeast Louisiana.
"As our nation’s military service members risk their lives to protect our freedoms, we must also do our part to provide them and their families with the resources and support they have earned and deserve. That’s why the House recently passed our annual defense bill, which provides for a strong national defense, gives our troops a pay raise, helps our strongest ally Israel, provides arms to the Ukraine so they can push back against Russian aggression, and helps our allies in the Middle East to fight the terrorist reign of ISIS.
"What better way to honor America's veterans and fulfill our Constitutional responsibility to 'provide for the common defense' than by passing the National Defense Authorization Act and getting the President to sign this critically important bill to America's national security.
"All of us owe our veterans a never-ending debt of gratitude. On this Veterans Day, I hope you will join me in celebrating our nation's veterans and thanking them for their service to our country. May God Bless you and may God Bless the United States of America."
