Louisiana, Minnesota Congressmen Place Wager on Saints-Vikings Showdown

January 22, 2010

Washington, DC -- As Minnesota and Louisiana anxiously await Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints, Congressmen Erik Paulsen (MN-03) and Steve Scalise (LA–01) today placed a friendly wager on the results of Sunday’s game.

Paulsen offered Scalise a lunch of Minnesota’s most famous fish, the walleye, as well as a crock pot of Minnesota wild rice for his staff if the Saints win. Scalise is offering Paulsen Louisiana alligator sausage and blackened redfish, as well as a pot of seafood gumbo for his staff. Paulsen and Scalise, who are roommates in Washington, D.C., have established a friendly rivalry during the current NFL season, as their respective teams climbed to the top of the NFC.

“The Saints are playing great football right now and I think Brett Favre will have about as much success in New Orleans as President Obama had in Massachusetts,” Scalise said. “Unfortunately I won’t be at the Dome this week, but I’ll still be yelling loud as part of the Who Dat Nation. Geaux Saints!”

“The Saints have had a great year, but they haven’t faced Adrian Peterson, Brett Favre and the Viking’s defensive line yet,” Paulsen said. “After Sunday’s game, I’m afraid the only thing being celebrated in New Orleans this February will be Mardi Gras. Skol Vikings!”

The NFC Championship game kick off is scheduled for 6:40 EST/5:40 CST Sunday evening.
