Permanent Ban On Internet Tax Heads To President’s Desk

February 12, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement applauding Senate passage of the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015. A provision within this customs bill makes permanent the ban on states and localities taxing Internet access. Since the House passed this customs bill in December 2015 with a vote of 256 to 158, it is on its way to the President’s desk.

“Thanks to bold Congressional action, we have now passed legislation blocking the federal government from taxing the Internet. An open and free Internet, without threats of government taxation, is critical to growing our economy and promoting innovation. This action ensures just that, and I would urge the President to quickly sign this bill into law.”
