Rebuilding our Military, Supporting our Troops

July 26, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the House voted 359-54 to adopt the Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 5515,the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2019.

"Today’s vote is another strong action we have taken, working with President Trump, to rebuild our nation’s military and ensure that our men and women in uniform have the tools and training they need to safely and successfully carry out their mission. This bill will not only help rebuild our military, it will also give our troops their largest pay raise in nearly a decade, invest in modern equipment for warfare and training, and support our allies like Israel. I’m also proud of the important role Southeast Louisiana plays in our military readiness and modernization, which is why this legislation provides funding to improve the Air National Guard facility at Belle Chasse, and for Louisiana-built ship-to-shore connecters and salvage and rescue vessels. After years of neglect under the previous administration, I’m glad we finally have a president who will work with us to invest in our military, and strengthen the abilities of our men and women in uniform to keep our country safe. I look forward to President Trump signing this legislation into law,"said Whip Scalise.
