Scalise: $350,000 for Louisiana to Enforce Underage Drinking Laws

June 20, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice is awarding a $350,000 grant to the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control to enforce underage drinking laws.

“Underage drinking is a very serious public health problem, and by enforcing our existing laws we can significantly reduce its impact,” Scalise said. “I’m pleased to see this grant awarded to Louisiana to help us combat underage drinking at the local levels.”

The funds are part of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grants Program. The program’s goal is to collaborate with local jurisdictions to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors.
