Scalise Announces 2009 Congressional Art Competition

April 20, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise announced that his office is accepting entries for the 2009 Congressional Art Competition. The theme for 2009 is “Louisiana Pride within the First District.”

The winner will have their artwork hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC for one year. The competition is open to high school students only within the First Congressional District. Each year, Members of Congress hold contests within their districts to choose pieces of art by high school students to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building.

Scalise said, “This impressive art exhibit decorates the Cannon Tunnel and showcases the talent of our nation’s young people. I encourage all interested high school students to participate so Southeast Louisiana is showcased as well.”

All entries must incorporate the theme, “Louisiana Pride within the First District,” and be received by Congressman Scalise’s Mandeville office by 5:00 pm on Monday, May 11th.

Interested high school students can also contact Danielle Evans in Scalise’s Mandeville office at 985-893-9064 with any questions.
