Scalise announces 2014 Offshore Energy Tour

May 7, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise will lead a Congressional Delegation on the 2014 Offshore Energy Tour to a deepwater production platform in the Gulf of Mexico’s Outer Continental Shelf on May 13 and 14.

Scalise will be joined by:

  • Rep. Michelle Bachmann (MN-06)
  • Rep. Susan Brooks (IN-05)
  • Rep. Mark Sanford (SC-01)
  • Rep. Steve Womack (AR-03)

“The 2014 Offshore Energy Tour gives Members of Congress from other parts of the country the opportunity to experience first-hand the process of producing American energy in the deep waters of the Outer Continental Shelf,” Scalise said. “This tour will provide my colleagues with a better understanding of the technology and skill involved in offshore energy production and how it is critical to job creation and American energy security.”

“Increasing domestic energy production is a proven way to create tens of thousands more American jobs. Look no further than the backyard of Louisiana’s First Congressional District, which is home to the metropolitan area with the lowest unemployment rate in the country, despite the radical energy policies of President Obama’s administration.

“I am honored that my colleagues will be joining me on the fifth annual offshore energy trip, and I will continue fighting to improve our economy and energy security by increasing energy production here at home.”

While on the tour, the delegation will meet with stakeholders from the energy industry, tour an offshore production platform, visit with the offshore employees, participate in an aerial tour of the Louisiana coast, and visit Port Fourchon, which services more than 90 percent of all Gulf of Mexico deepwater projects.
