Scalise Announces Winner for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition
METAIRIE, LA– Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that Kelli Laderer of Lakeshore High School from Lacombe won this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The theme for the competition was “Louisiana through my eyes,” and Kelli’s winning piece is named “Louisiana River Boat on the Mississippi River.”
“This is a great way to showcase the talents of high school artists from Louisiana's First Congressional District, and I’d like to thank each artist who participated,” Scalise said. “The artwork submitted truly depicted Louisiana’s unique culture and vibrant landscape. Kelli’s piece especially, as it captures a peaceful riverboat ride down the mighty Mississippi River. You can’t help but think of the sights and sounds of Louisiana when you view the artwork. I’m proud this piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol as a showcase of Louisiana life through her eyes.”
Kelli’s work will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and the three other finalists will have the opportunity to have their work displayed in one of Scalise’s district offices. The other finalists are as follows:
· Elise Clay from New Orleans’ Academy of the Sacred Heart – “Beads of Life”
· Shaun Prats from Mandeville’s Archbishop Hannah High School – “Louisiana Through My Eyes”
· Alexandra Pollard from Metairie’s Patrick Taylor Science & Technology Academy – “My Louisiana: Both Vivid Color and Subtle Beauty”
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, and has given countless high school students from across the country the opportunity to share their artistic talents.
