Scalise applauds inclusion of Morganza Project in T&I hearing on WRRDA

April 29, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise released the following statement today after the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee officially reviewed the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project among the chief reports reviewed by the Army Corps of Engineers.

“After nearly 20 years of facing bureaucratic red-tape, we are now at the doorstep of Congress finally authorizing the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project in the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA),” Scalise said. “Getting Morganza to the Gulf authorized has been one of my top priorities because it means stronger flood protection and peace of mind for hard-working families throughout southeast Louisiana. I applaud Ranking Member Vitter and Chairman Shuster for continuing the work on a national level that has already been done by communities in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes. This paramount project is vital, not only for hurricane surge protection for residents in southeast Louisiana, but also for protecting the energy infrastructure that provides 20 percent of our nation's oil and gas.”
