Scalise Calls Out Democrats for Refusing to Enforce Sanctions Against Terrorists

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after the majority of House Democrats voted down the Motion to Recommit H.R. 264, which would have increased funding for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI) to match the House-passed level:

“It’s disappointing but no surprise to see Democrats vote against restoring House-passed funding levels for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI). TFI is how we enforce sanctions against terrorists, drug lords, WMD proliferators, and rogue nations. Democrats cannot claim to care about national security if they strike flawed deals with bad actors like Iran then turn around and refuse to increase funding for our critical enforcement agencies.

“While global security is threatened by countries like Iran, Russia, and North Korea, TFI’s work, such as carefully tracking who is funding terrorist organizations, helps prevent attacks against the U.S. and our allies. House Republicans recognize the need to get TFI more desperately needed resources. It’s a shame Democrats once again chose to push their political agenda instead of giving our enforcement agencies the tools they need to do their jobs.”
