Scalise Commends U.S. Navy and Capt. Richard Phillips

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today made the following statement regarding the rescue of Maersk-Alabama Capt. Richard Phillips who had been held hostage by Somali pirates.

“I commend the Navy Seals for standing down these terrorist thugs. The U.S. Military showed that we will not tolerate lawless behavior and that we will not negotiate with terrorists. Capt. Richard Phillips is a true hero for offering his life to save his crew. All of our country’s prayers were answered when the entire crew was rescued with no American casualties.”
