Scalise Cosponsors Resolution to Demand Mueller Documents

WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement regarding his decision to cosponsor a resolution insisting that the Department of Justice fully comply with the requests, including subpoenas, of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the subpoena issued by the Committee on the Judiciary relating to potential violations of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by personnel of the Department of Justice and related matters. The House will vote on the resolution tomorrow.

“The Department of Justice has repeatedly failed to comply with subpoenas from the House regarding critical documents pertaining to both the Mueller investigation and the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's unauthorized, secret server. Throughout this process, extremely troubling information has been unveiled about the manner in which these investigations have been conducted, from the clear bias key FBI investigators demonstrated against President Trump and in favor of Hillary Clinton, to possible attempts to obstruct the Trump campaign in the 2016 election by unjustly monitoring officials connected to the campaign through abuses of the FISA process.

"These troubling facts have called the integrity of the FBI's investigations into question, and it's critical that Congress is able to review all the relevant documents to ensure this is not becoming a witch hunt. Americans are losing faith in the impartiality of the FBI, and it is important for the Department of Justice to be fully transparent as the FBI continues these investigations if we are going to restore that trust. Congress has a constitutional obligation to provide oversight of executive agencies, and it is critical that we receive all of these remaining documents in a timely manner."
