Scalise: Court Ruling Allows State To Implement Law Protecting Women At Abortion Clinics
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement applauding the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling against abortion clinics in Louisiana. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has said that Louisiana can implement its law requiring physicians who perform abortions at abortion clinics to have hospital admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic.
“Protecting innocent human life goes hand in hand with protecting women who seek medical help during pregnancy,” Rep. Scalise said. “This ruling by the federal court is a positive step in protecting the health and well-being of women. We need to ensure that abortion clinics can no longer put women at risk through unsafe standards. With the infamous Gosnell clinic and others that have put women in danger, we have seen the horrors that take place when the abortion industry is allowed to put their extreme agenda ahead of women’s health and safety. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals was right and just to protect women by upholding a similar law in Texas and, now, to allow Louisiana's similar law to be implemented. Next week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the appeal of the Texas law. I urge the Supreme Court to uphold the Texas law, which would affirm the laws of Louisiana and many other states who strive to protect women’s health.”
