Scalise: EPA’s Delayed Fuel Mandate is Misguided

May 29, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) today released the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed volume requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program for the years 2014, 2015, and 2016. Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA is required to set annual volume requirements for biofuels, but did not comply last year and was taken to court as a result.

"It is sad but telling that President Obama’s EPA has to get sued just to do its job,” Rep. Scalise said. “While the EPA’s RFS volumes released today more closely align fuel production reality with programmatic requirements, the RFS remains a heavy-handed government mandate that must be scrapped. Hard-working taxpayers who are forced to live with these unworkable standards deserve transparency and accountability from the EPA, and I will continue working to fully repeal the misguided RFS program in its entirety.”
