Scalise to host 2013 American Energy Tour Thursday, Friday in Louisiana
Three Members of Congress to join Scalise and industry leaders
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Scalise will lead a group of Congressmen on the 2013 American Energy Tour in South Louisiana and on a deepwater rig in the Gulf of Mexico's Outer Continental Shelf on February 21 and 22.
Participating in the 2013 American Energy Tour with Scalise are: Congressman Morgan Griffith (VA), Congressman Dennis Ross (FL), and Congressman John Shimkus (IL).
“The 2013 American Energy Tour allows members from around the country to see first-hand what is involved in safely producing American energy in the deep water of the Gulf of Mexico,” Scalise said. “Members will get a better understanding of the skills and technology involved in offshore energy production and how it is critical to America’s energy security. Increasing domestic energy exploration and production creates high-paying American jobs while lowering gas prices at the pump and reducing our dependence on Middle Eastern oil.
“American families know that the current policies of the Obama Administration are making it harder to explore for domestic energy and making us more reliant on Middle Eastern countries who don’t like us for the oil our nation uses. Helping to educate members of Congress on the importance of domestic energy and Louisiana’s role in energy production is a part of my continued fight to improve our economy and energy security by increasing energy exploration and production here at home.”
Members of the media are invited to attend a press conference with Scalise and the other Members of Congress on Friday, February 22, at 3:00 pm CT. The press conference will be held at the Atlantic Aviation terminal on the north side of Louis Armstrong International Airport, 749 Lockheed Dr. 70062. The Atlantic Aviation terminal is just south of the intersection of Lockheed Dr. and Boeing Dr.
While on the tour, the Congressmen will meet with stakeholders from the energy industry in Port Fourchon on Thursday, tour a deepwater semi-submersible drilling platform, visit with rig workers, and participate in an aerial tour of the Louisiana coast with officials from the Louisiana Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority.
