Scalise: Internet regulation trumps innovation in today’s FCC “net neutrality” ruling

December 21, 2010

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today released the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission adopted rules to regulate the Internet by imposing “net neutrality” policies.

“The FCC has exceeded its authority by adopting ‘net neutrality’ rules that will stifle innovation and growth in this dynamic industry, and I will work with my colleagues to fight this regulation when the Republicans take back the House in January,” Scalise said. “This is yet another example of a government solution in search of a problem that doesn’t exist. Today’s ruling will discourage Internet investment and innovation and will deal a major blow to one of the few sectors of our economy that has continued to grow and create jobs. The FCC’s pursuit of Internet regulation continues a dangerous pattern by this Administration to take over more aspects of our economy, and sends the chilling message that regulation trumps innovation for Internet operations.”
