Scalise lauds passage of bill to increase American energy production, create jobs, lower gas prices

May 5, 2011

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act. The bill would expand American energy production and create jobs by requiring the Secretary of the Interior to conduct oil and natural gas lease sales that have been delayed by the Obama Administration.

“The passage of this bill represents the first of many common-sense solutions to lower gas prices, decrease our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, and also end the reckless energy policies proposed by the White House and liberals in Congress,” Scalise said. “Gas prices have more than doubled since President Obama took office, and American families cannot afford to continue paying nearly $4 a gallon while this Administration runs thousands more energy jobs out of our country. I will continue working to reduce our dependence on Middle Eastern oil while creating jobs and promoting an ‘America first’ energy strategy that allows us to develop our own natural resources.”

Earlier today, Scalise spoke on the House floor in favor of H.R 1230. His speech can be viewed by clicking the image below or here.
