Scalise: More Than $17 Million for Louisiana Schools, Hospital, Parks and Communities
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise announced today that the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding $16,804,035 in grants to Louisiana for six Hurricane Katrina recovery projects.
“Our schools, hospitals, and parks are very important to maintaining a high quality of life in Southeast Louisiana,” Scalise said, “While we continue the rebuilding process we need to continue working together at the local, state and federal level for the hurricane recovery funding we still need.”
Following are the allocations of the funds awarded by FEMA.
• $3,800,000 for HR LSUHCSD Medical Center of Louisiana, New Orleans
• $2,164,100 for St. Tammany Parish School Board—Salmen High School
• $1,091,365 for New Orleans City Park-Storm Sewer and Waterline Repairs
• $2,868,856 for Jefferson Parish Pontiff Playground Gymnasium
• $5,780,904 for Mount Carmel Academy Campus
• $1,098,810 for Slidell—Sanitary Sewer System Cleaning and CCTV
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to Louisiana. It is the State's responsibility to ensure that eligible sub-grantees receive these awards.
