Scalise Named “Defender of Liberty” by American Conservative Union

February 23, 2010

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today was named a “Defender of Liberty” by the American Conservative Union (ACU) in its latest round of Congressional ratings. Scalise earned a perfect score of 100 percent in the recently released ACU 2009Ratings of Congress, a ranking that placed him in the top 12 percent of all House Members.

“I am honored to receive this prestigious award, and encourage more of my colleagues to work to restore the conservative principles that our great nation was founded upon,” Scalise said. “The American People have had enough of the radical liberal agenda we’ve seen from President Obama and Speaker Pelosi, including their proposed government takeover of health care, the ‘cap and trade’ energy tax, and their reckless deficit spending.”

The average score in the House of Representatives for the ACU 2009 Ratings of Congress was 41 percent. This is the 39th edition of the ACU’s Rating of Congress. The ratings are determined based on Member’s votes on 25 bills during the first session of the 111th Congress.
