Scalise Nominates 13 Local Students for U.S. Service Academies

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise along with his Congressional Academy Board has nominated 13 high school students from the First Congressional District to four different U.S. service academies for the 2011-12 school year.

“Our nation’s service academies have a longstanding history of preparing our future leaders to grow and excel in service to our nation,” Scalise said. “These nominees are among Louisiana’s best and brightest, and I am proud to nominate 13 excellent young men and women to further their education and training in our service academies.”

The students nominated by Scalise are listed below:

• Josue Breaux (St. Paul's School) of Covington, LA was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Elaine Broussard (Cabrini High School) of Metairie, LA was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Parke Drapcho (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville, LA was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Nichole Freeman (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville, LA nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• LeRoid Jones (Jesuit High School) of Destrehan, LA was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Elijah Levee (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville, LA was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• David Mahoney (Jesuit High School) of Metairie, LA was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Justin Miller (Salmen High School) of Slidell, LA was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy.
• Sean Reilly (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville, LA was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy.
• Blake Ridley (St. Martin's Episcopal School) of Metairie, LA was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Jeffrey Rush (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville, LA was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) and U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Clayton Tufts (Jesuit High School) of Metairie, LA was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.
• Gregory Williams (Ridgewood Preparatory School) of Metairie, La was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).

The students’ applications will now be sent to the service academies in which they are applying for further review. Appointments will be announced by each academy at a later date.
