Scalise Nominates 22 Local Students for U.S. Service Academies
Jefferson -- Congressman Steve Scalise along with his Congressional Academy Board has nominated 22 high school students from the First Congressional District to four different U.S. Service Academies for the 2010-11 school year.
“Our nation's service academies provide an excellent opportunity to earn a post-secondary education while also serving our country,” Scalise said. “These service academy nominees are all excellent students who also excel in extracurricular activities. I’m confident that many of these nominees will go on to be appointed and represent Louisiana with dignity in our Armed Service Academies.”
Scalise has nominated the following students listed below along with their high school and hometowns:
• Rachelle Ammond (Pope John Paul II High School) of Slidell was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy.
• Thomas Barnett Jr. (Jesuit High School) of Metairie was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy and to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Jordan Berges (Holy Cross School) of Jefferson was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Peter Chatry (St. Paul’s High School) of Covington was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Joshua Goodwin (Mandeville High School) of Madisonville was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Richard Green (St. Paul’s High School) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Radix Harris (Covington High School) of Covington was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Joshua Lambert (Mandeville High School) of Madisonville was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Jeffrey LeBlanc (St. Paul’s High School) of Madisonville was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Levon McCabe (Ponchatoula High School) of Ponchatoula was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Cynthia McDaniel (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Ryan McGee (Fontainebleau High School) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Matthew Morse (St. Paul’s High School) of Covington was nominated for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• Matthew Pennison (Brother Martin High School) of Metairie was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
• Rachel Pierson (Homeschooled) of Ponchatoula was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Kenneth Rands (Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Academy) of Metairie was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Jonathan Ringo (Mandeville High School) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
• William Roberts (Ridgewood Preparatory School) of River Ridge was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy.
• Ellen Rosenow (St. Scholastica Academy) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Karen Rosenow (St. Scholastica Academy) of Mandeville was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Chandler Scheuermann (Pope John Paul II High School) of Slidell was nominated for the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
• Tim Turner (Pope John Paul II High School) of Slidell was nominated for the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The students’ applications will now be sent to the service academies in which they are applying for further review. Appointments will be announced by each academy at a later date.
