Scalise: Obama veto threat is irresponsible
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today issued the following statement after the Obama Administration announced that the President would veto H.R. 2560, the Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011. The House is expected to vote on the legislation tomorrow.
“President Obama’s irresponsible threat to veto ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ shows that he’s not willing to admit that Washington has a spending problem, and he’s not willing to make the necessary cuts to force the federal government to start living within its means,” Scalise said. “During these tough economic times, American families have been tightening their belts to balance their budget, yet President Obama proposes more job-killing tax increases so he can continue spending money we don’t have. This tax-and-spend agenda has been a dismal failure, and it’s time to change course.
“I support a balanced approach to ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance,’ which starts by making immediate cuts to Washington spending, and also caps future spending while sending a balanced budget amendment to the states for ratification. This plan finally forces Washington to live within its means so we can ensure that the American dream is passed down to our children and grandchildren.”
